There might be a crack in the heat exchanger that opens only occasionally as the furnace heats up and blows the pilot light out. There can also be a tiny flake of dirt at the tiny orifice in the pilot light that occasionally wobbles and blocks the pilot orifice. The pilot light must heat the thermocouple so the thermocouple can keep sending an electrical charge back to the furnace which keeps the gas valve from shutting closed.
